Sudden Finder restart / Jaguar / iBook

Hi there,

Has anyone else had this one:

I was just hacking some code in ViM / Terminal.app when I decided to throw on iTunes and listen to some Music (Slaughter of the Sould by At the Gates, as I recall) - I launched iTunes, stuck in the ear phones and hit (F4) on my iBook (volume down) so as not to traumatise any of my fellow passengers on the train I was on. The little volume window didn't pop up though, like it normally does. No 'plop' sound indicating any success.
And *then* ... the screen went blue! (ARGH! 'Blue Screen Of Death' my years of Windows usage told me, but I remained calm and hopeful)
Then the Finder started loading up again.
I'd lost all the apps that had been open (thankfully I save a lot when I'm working so I hadn't lost any data ... ':w<enter>' is something I could type if I was lying comatosed in the intensive care ward of a hospital :) ... but I was not amused seeing as how I *could* have lost data!
When I checked the /var/system.log it appears that OS X couldn't get a handle to a certain window (probably the little semi-transparent one indicating the volume going up or down) just before the 'crash'.

Still - so far its only happened the once and I didn't have to reboot the entire machine to get back up and running again ... but if anyone has any tips on preventing it (apart from "Well don't launch iTunes, stick earphones in *and* hit the volume down button at the *same time*!") then I'd be much obliged :)

Thanks in advance,

C
