I only have little experience with OS X and the Mac platform and am having a little trouble sorting through the conflicting information that I seem to be finding.
Our developers have requested the ability to support OS X 10.4 through 10.6 and the Power PC and Intel platform. Ideally, this all would be virtualized, but that does not appear to be possible.
I found information on how to load multiple versions of OS X on one Mac, which would help keep hardware at a minimum, and currently have successfully installed 10.5 in addition to 10.4 that came on an iBook G4. I would like to get 10.5 and if possible, 10.4, on the Intel Mac with 10.6. There has been conflicting information on running 10.4 on an Intel Mac. One site is claiming you would need to get an Intel Mac with 10.4 as the retail 10.4 DVD would not work on one.
I also understand that OS X Server can be virtualized. However, the concern is exactly what are the difference between OS X Server and its desktop counter part and ultimately, if it could be used as a valid tool to support the desktop environment. Even if it is the same, I could still see this being a concern for the developers, support and management.
Keeping the solution simple and minimal is ideal as SQA and the support team most likely will have a need for a similar setup. Any information to help come up with the best solution would be greatly appreciated.
