Super annoying sounds.

Ok I just upgraded to Panther. Though I'm liking all the nice extras something is very wrong with it's sounds. Anytime a sound effect is played by a alert or completion of a spell check you can faintly hear the original sound but a very load and annoying BUZZZZ sound effect plays over top of it. Man it's driving me crazy. What can I do to fix this? Anyone know?

does it appear with mp3 playback as well? Maybe something is wrong with your sound card?
Check out System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects and try to find that sound file. In best case, something is wrong with that audio file.

EDIT: does the sound appear on your internal speaker (if you have any) or does it come from your external speakers? Test the sound with headphones and see if it still does this buzzing

Ok well I all the music I have on iTunes plays perfectly. So I went to Sound -> Sound Effects and tried everything there. All of them had the buzzing expect one or two which had no sound and that's coming through my eMac's internal speakers. Next I tried testing those sound effects through head phones and got the same results.

I am wondering what kind of files those sounds are. Did you try to localize them on your disc and playback on itunes? Maybe they use a certain codec that is slightly messed?!
What happenes if you pick some other sound files? Such that won't make this buzz sound?

Well I'm not sure what type of sound files they are. I just now they are Apple's Alert sounds found in System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects. And are the only sound files that have this problem.

Now I wasn't able at all ctrl click on the sounds so I wasn't able to select "Get info" Or copy them to iTunes and try them there.

Edit: As I am typing this I once again went through each and every listed sound effect in Sound Effects section. Each one had the Buzzing to it but one or two which had no sound at all. I decided it be best in the mean time to turn the alert volume all the way off so I can work without the terrible noise. Now as odd as this is I went ahead and turned the alert volume back half way and tried the sounds one last time and for whatever reason they all work perfectly as if nothing was wrong. I don't know if I should be smiling or confused. XD Well anyway, it seemed to have fixed it's self by doing that so I want to say thank you Zammy for your help. This hasn't been the first time you came to my aid in this section of the forum. XS

as you said: didn't do a thing but I am happy you did it somehow. However, you should smile! :) and save your confusion for upcoming probs ;)
