Suse Linux for PPC - 7.0 vs 7.3?

Hi - I have Suse Linux PPC 7.0 and I would like to try installing it - I just never got around to it and I bought it the same time beta OS X came out. I see they have 7.3 out and I'm wondering if anybody has used it and/or knows if it is worth the upgrade? They sure do include a ton of software, and I heard they have a new package installer, but the $79.95 is a little steep at this time since I should be spending my money on holiday gifts for my family and friends!

About a year ago I had Suse 6.4 running on my Mac and I seem to recall Suse telling me that 6.4 did not take full advantage of my G4 450's stock grahpics card - windows drags were a little jumpy, resolution... - would 7.0 and/or 7.3 have any improvements to xfree (or whatever it is that would talk to my graphics card - sorry - newby here) so that my Mac will run Linux and XWindows as fast and sharp as it should?

i bought suse 7.1 about 3 days before 7.3 came out. i was looking forward to it, because suse is my favorite distro on the pc. unfortunately, the install CD won t boot, and i have been unable to install.

I have digital audio g4, with adc display. i suspect that the adc display or the nvidia graphics card is causing the problem.

so my advice is to find out for sure that your machine can run it.

Hey lethe,

Sorry you had trouble with Suse. I know it will run on my G4 450 - I was just wondering if the upgrade from 7.0 to 7.3 is worth the expense. I need to be less wordy - my New Years resolution.

FYI - I have Suse PPC 7.3 and true to their motto - Suse is a lot of fun.

If anyone ever has questions about installing this (dual boot, sound, changing windowmanagers...), drop me an email. Their manual makes everything 10 times as complicated as it really is.
