Swaping control and caps lock?

lurk

Mitä?
Howdy,

I am a new convert to the Mac fold after many years of being a Unix guy and I am really digging my new TiBook but there is one big issue I need to ask about. How can I remap the control key to the caps lock key so that is where god intended it:) I have looked around and not come up with much.

I thought that I could at least use xmodmap to put the key in the right place but unfortunatly that does not look like it will work since pressing caps lock only generates one key event and not two like most every other key. So it is not possible to detect that the key is activly being held down. So a work around would be to get XDarwin to generate the key up event each time so I could xmodmap it but I would like to fix this for Aqua stuff to.

Thanks a bunch!

The ability to do with the USB keyboard is actually built-in to OS X, but I believe it doesn't work on the laptops. Sorry. You might want to check out uControl, which you can find at Version Tracker, but not sure how well it works. Last time I tried it, it swapped them, but still kept the on/off functionality of the Caps Lock key.

Thanks a bunch!

uControl is just wat I was looking for. I am now typing the way that I am used to. This works in Aqua and XDarwin where xev show that I am getting a key down and a key up event each time I press the control (caps lock) key. The only problem is that the little led in the caps lock still toggles each time I press it but that appears to not have any effect so I do not mind one bit.

Thanks again,
