switching default app for file type

Hello,

How do I make a certain application be the default application that opens a given file type?

Click once on the file you'd like to change the application for in the Finder (for example, a PDF document), and do a "Get Info" (press command-i). In the "Get Info" window, under "Open with:", change the application listed to the application of your choice, and click the "Change all..." button below.
 
RCDefault App is a preference pane that allows for advanced control over file associations, which I've found very useful over the last few years.
