Switching from pop to imap

Title pretty much says it all.

I have a laptop running normal 10.2.6 as well as a server running the server version of 10.2.6. On the laptop, I wanted to switch my default mail account from pop to imap. The option is not available (grey) in the Mail app's dialog box. So I tried changing it in the system preferences (internet, mail) and it still says pop in Mail and it is still grey.

I have not tried to make the same change on my server but I bet I'm going to have the same problem. The server is a server but is used as a "normal" system for me and is where I check and read my mail most of the time.

The one trick I did with the laptop was to disable the default mail address and create a new one using imap but that sorta stinks.

Any suggestions?

It seems like once you create the account in Mail.app you can't change the protocol. You'll have to delet it and recreate the account and set it to IMAP at that time. I have the same behavior (it's greyed out) too, as I'm sure it's always like that.

yeah, Lycander is right. Just write down the information in your mail -> accounts -> your account so you dont forget it, backup the emails you want to keep, and delete the account the re-create your account in mail.
