switching volumes in single user mode

Doesn't really matter how many users you have, all you have to do is restart and hold the option key down till you see the screen pop up with two arrows and your drives show up between them, the rest of the screen is blue.

Scroll through the drives (be patient, it's not fast) with the left arrow and select a drive with your mouse and lock in your selection with the arrow on the right.

If you're referring to "user switching" this refers to only the user, not the drive itself. Hope this helps!

you have to set the "boot-device" firmware variable
change boot volume in system preferences to your prefered volume
type in terminal "nvram -p" e view the string boot-device. that's the hardware address of your selected boot device.
for change it, type in terminal "nvram boot-device=hardwareaddress" or "set nvram boot-device=hardwareaddress" or something like that... i dont remember the perfect syntact... try e verify...
in case of problem restart the mac pressing the keys Command-Option-R-P for reset the nvram... or more simply use the tip of natobasso.
sorry for my english, but i'm italian adn i dont speak fine english :)
