Sync across 2 Macs

I'm having trouble syncing across iMac and iBook. Have tried .Mac, but sometimes it works, mostly not. Could I have set it up wrong? Under System Prefs - .Mac - Advanced, I have two computers registered. But they both seem to sync only on the first listed computer. Should I delete the second? Should each computer have its own name and listing there? Or is my problem elsewhere?

Second part of question: Will syncing between Macs using .Mac *change* my settings or *merge* them? How can I merge them?

Bottom line: How can I make both computers reflect changes on each other at all times without losing info?

 
I just bought a loaded mini and a cinema display, and am having trouble syncing all of the information between that and my powerbook. Under .Mac Advanced preferences, only my laptop shows up, and I've been unable to make both computers reflect all changes.

Anyone have ideas? Thanks!
