Sync problems with .Mac

Hi there!
I'm having an ongoing problem with syncing between my account and the .Mac server.

Whenever I go to system preferences and click on 'Advanced' or 'Sync', I get the following message:

Unable to login to the .Mac synchronization server
Could not retrieve .Mac configuration.

I can login from another (new) user, and have tried unregistering the computer (from the new user, obviously, as I can't access anything in the old one...) and reregistering - again, the new user will register, but I can't get to the .Mac server to do anything from the old user.
I've referred this to .Mac support, and they have suggested a number of fixes, none of which has been useful - and having now had the problem for over a month I'm starting to get a mite impatient, particularly when I can't sync my calendar events.

It has also affected syncing my Palm (T3), which makes me inclined to think that it's something to do with my syncing preferences in the old user.

Has anyone else had this problem, or can anyone suggest a possible fix, please??

Phil

PowerBook G4, 1.5GHz, 512Mb RAM, OSX 10.4.3, 80Gb HD, connected to web via ADSL nation modem acting as a gateway, and using airport express (and yes, I've tried connecting via hotspot and ethernet cable as well, so it's not network related)

Sadly, whilst the issue is similar, and no doubt related, the suggested fixes are irrelevant or don't work... although I've posted a copy of the thread to .Mac support in the vain hope that they might register the problem and fix it...
I feel that the support group are way down in the hierarchy, and have no comtrol over the software engineers, some of which I suspect might be infiltrators from Microsoft, as everything is suddenly cocking up bigtime...
