system preference icons messed

hey guys. I hate my first post to be asking for help but that's kinda how I stumbled across this forum and it seems like a great place to ask :)

My friend's iBook running OSX has her icons all messed up. I'm not totally sure if it's effecting functionality or it just looks weird, but either way it's doing something it shouldn't.

All the icons are replaced by little lightswitch icons. [See attached]

any help would be fantastic :)

I have the same issue with this and I hope someone knows what is causing this :)
Edit: I have solved this issue. To solve it, use OnyX (search it at apple.com or macupdate.com) and clear all of the Caches and the pictures should return to normal.
 
Quit System Preferences if it's running and trash the following file:


/Users/yourusername/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache

Then log out/in or restart and check System Preferences for proper functionality.
