System Preferences module question

When I select System Preferences and view the heirarchial menu of options, I've got duplicates of ".mac" and "Desktop & Screensaver"." They are not in the PreferencePane folder. They also do not show up if I just launch System Preferences.

Any idea where the list of System Preferences is kept?

Thanks.

Try deleting the file "com.apple.preferencepanes.cache" from your system (do a find for it).

Sometimes this file gets corrupted and can lead to preference panes showing up more than once or not at all.

Deleting this file will not harm the system or the preference panes at all -- it'll simply force System Preferences to rebuild the cache file for the panes.

Check Library > Preference Panes and Users > yourname > Library > Preference Panes to make sure you don't have any actual duplicates.

Wow, now why didn't I think of that.

Actually, these PreferencePanes aren't in either of those locations anyway.

System>Library>PreferencePanes

Yes, I'm being sarcastic

:)

I know they're supposed to be in System, but they could have gotten duplicated somehow.

Don't ask me how—I wasn't the one mucking around in your system. ;)
