System Preferences preferences are starting to not stick

Arg. Lately, I've been having a problem with some of my preferences that I set in the System Preferences application.

Specifically, they are starting to unstick.

The latest culprits are the Internet preference pane (defaulted to Internet Explorer even though I had OmniWeb selected, OmniWeb is now the default since I modified the preference file, and it wasn't a problem with updating to the latest version), and the Keyboard preference pane (the delay to repeat defaulted to off and the key repeat rate defaulted to slow).

I'm thinking it might be a permissions problem, but I can't find where the preferences for these two panes are stored.

Anybody got any ideas on where the prefs are stored or how I can get them to truly stick (especially the internet browser default), without resorting to deleting Internet Explorer?

This happened to me with my Network preferences. I couldn't make them stay. I had to eventually reinstall the system :(

Internet Exploder seems to be somehow "hard-wired" into OS X. I have to deselect it in my Internet prefs a couple of times a week, it seems. One suggestion that I haven't tried yet is to stuff that M$ POS. Deleting it entirely is another option, of course.
BTW, have you tried the new BrowserWars prefs pane? It provides a handy drop-down menu for selecting your default browser.
:D

lol. i've renamed explorer into 'internet exploder' and taken it out of the apps folder, that seems to keep it from defaulting back again, as the os seems to think i don't have explorer at all any more ... :D

Well, the Internet pane has always given me problems. Every time I install a new sneaky peek of OmniWeb, it defaults back to Internet Explorer. That's really damn annoying.

What's more, is that I changed my internet prefs so that OmniWeb should always be identified as the default browser, and when I select it, there's only OmniWeb and nothing else. But Mac OS X seems to find Internet Explorer when I install a new version, because it just pops back to IE!!

I seriously can't wait until Apple's contract with Microsoft runs out. I just hope they start bundling other browsers with Mac OS X.

OK WTF! I just renamed IE to "Internet Exploder", and now OS X wants to default to Chimera. WTF! Grr.

Anyway, I'd still like to know how to prevent the keyboard settings from changing.

if you change your mouse sttings from the default ones, and play quake 3 they will be reset to default - sucks

So does anyone have any suggestions? It's still happening. The mouse tracking speed went down a few minutes ago, and after restarting, my Desktop changed back to the traditional aqua background.

This is starting to get on my nerves...
