system preferences problems

please i need help.
In many items at the system preferences i have problems, in startup i cant choose any of the the two o.s and the lock button is in grey so i can type my password, but sometimes i can type it and when i type my password, nothing happens it waits hours checking the pasword and nothing.
The same happens with another items.
please someone help me because i cant reboot again to os 9.1

if you've got multiple partitions you can restart and hold the option key to select which partition (and thereby os) to start from ...
