Either i am blind or i always seem to look for this when i am tired so i am missing it. but if you have some corrupted system prefs. I know in OS 9 and earlier you could just trash the pref reboot and then it would be all good. but in OS X how do you go about rebuilding a system pref?

Likewise, trash the pref and you'll usually be right. System-wide prefs are found in /Library/Preferences, and user-specific prefs are found in /Users/UsersHomeDir/Library/Preferences.

Keep a backup of the pref you remove, though, just in case.
