System Problems...

I'm running OS X 10.3.9 with 1.5 gig ram.
been having serious problems with the operating system.

1. I cannot print, when I try to print it simply says cannot print or not enough ram, even with the smallest size images I get this error.

I have tried plugging in several different printers and network printeres too with the same error.

2. My safari does not play flash plugins anymore, ive updated to the latest plugin and still not working.

My guess is something has corruptted or a system file is missing. Not sure, does any one have any ideas? I am wondering if I reinstall my OS, is there a way to simply update the system software so I don't loose all my programs and files?

Try creating a new print driver from your Printer and Faxes System Preference. If you've already tried creating a new print driver and the system still won't print, run the Disk Utility app to make sure your hard disk isn't damaged. Then, back up your data and prepare to reinstall your OS. Or upgrade to Tiger if you can afford it. If you can't, BACK UP your important files and then reinstall the OS from your install disk. Yes, you can reinstall your OS without losing your personal files, but I wouldn't risk the process without a back up of my important stuff.

The reason I asked how much free space was available on the HD is that OSX uses virtual memory and with 1.5G of RAM you need more than that amount of free space for the computer to run properly. I had a whole range of mysterious things happen, including the "gray screen", freezes & unexpected quits when I started running low on HD space. Took me a while to realize the cause, too. Freed up space (now have a 2nd drive as well) and the problems disappeared.
