SystemUIServer not responding...

I've experenced lack of responsiveness in my system from time to time so I used Activity Monitor to watch what application that causes this. After connecting my camera (Nikon D70) which in turn launches iPhoto, I discovered that the process systemUIServer doesn't respond. I have no idea what this process does but I think it could have something to do with the mounting of the D70 on the desktop. I'm quite sure it shouldn't be non-responing though.
My setup is iMac 450 DV+, 512 MB RAM, Mac OS X 10.3.8 and iPhoto 5.01.
Any ideas?

Try trashing com.apple.systemuiserver.plist and logout / login afterwards.

Could be ther D70, or a hack/third party add on causing it/ ipod on a Dock.

OK, I trashed the .plist file (and my menuicons disappeared) and logged out/in, but as soon as i connect the camera the systemUIServer process becomes non-responding again. I can't say I suffer very much (yet anyway) from having this process like this, but it can't be right...
