TBook Display Question

Two months ago I bought a Titanium PowerBook G4/867 15" and it has been working great. However there is one thing that I find puzzleing. On two occasions when i started up the TBook in the morning, the screen, at the end of the startup process ended up being very dim, just barely bright enough to distinguish the icons and menu bar on the desktop. When I went to System Preferences and selected the Display icon I found the slider bar which controls the display's brightness to be almost all the way to the left. After moving it all the way up to the right, the display retained its normal brightness and everything was fine after that. However, I can't understand how the brightnerss control was lowered as I never did it myself. It has only happened twice and has never happened when the mac was in sleep mode—only after it was shut down over night. Any ideas? Was i doing something that I was unaware of?

there are two keys i think f1 and f2 that reduce/brighten the display, but that doesnt explain why it happened during sleep.

I've found that during low battery situations my mac will lower screen brightness to save power.

The two things that drain the battery the most are the disk drive(s) and the screen.

Another question, are you sure you have a TiBook? Or do you have the new aluminum alloy powerbooks?

Given the purchase date and the fact that you said 15" makes me think you have the Aluminum Powerbook. I only mention this because this could be a hardware related issue and the Aluminum powerbooks are (of course) very different from the TiBooks.

Also, My first thought was that it was the automatic light sensor which controls the keypad illumination as well, but that option is not available with the 15" models is it?

No, I do have a Titanium G4. One thing that occured to me was: when I shut down in the evening, sometimes I don't wait for the shut down process to finish before closing the lid. Could that cause the mac to think that I am going into sleep mode and make the display dimmer? Your comment about low battery condition affecting the brightness of the display could be it as well. Since at the end of the day, the battery is often at its lowest level.

Seems to be just a little bug - I've noticed the same with my 550 MHz PB, which is two revisions older

evildan - it's only the 12" and 17" that are aluminum alloy yet, the 15" is still the same as the one before the 12" and 17" were released in January ;)
