Terminal and other Utlities have disappeared

I upgraded my OS X software the other day and it put the new files under another partition for Applications. Yesterday I moved the new files to my Utilities folder and many of the apps that I frequently use have disappeared such as Terminal, Net Info Manager, etc.

Can someone tell me how to get them back?

Would I be safe doing this without backing up my home directory first? I need to get an external hard drive as I have about 200 GBs of files but it will be a while before I can get it.

Do you think if I just copied the files in the Utitlies directory over from my other Mac (running Tiger) that it would work just as good?

A&I will preserve your Users folder.

Not sure if copying the apps over woudl work for all. Try copying one app over and see if it works.

I tried copying Terminal over and it seems to be working without any problems. I will try doing the A&I in the near future regardless. Thanks for your help.
