The _Fryke_ Factor

Maybe Fryke doesn't believe in using BBCode (and that's OK) but is there a way to convert those underscores and other shorthand emphasis techniques into real formatting?

Just curious... and Fryke, it doesn't really bother me the way you compose your messages; I just think it's not "ideal." :)

I'm waiting for vBulletin to finally update their code accordingly. ;) Underscores are _italics_. Asterisks are *bold*. I know, that's very old-school (I guess I've learned it on IRC or some MUD I've played through telnet back in the nineties...), but only because more 'modern members of the internet community' (i.e. newbies) don't know about 'the old ways' doesn't make it in any way damnable. At least not for me. ;)

Btw.: If you don't even believe me that underscores mean _italics_, go to Microsoft Word and type a phrase with one word _underscored_ like that and see what Word does. As I'm a writer professionally, I tend to use shortcuts wherever I'm at, because there's nothing worse than having to write something like . _'s much faster, believe me.

So, after all I've said now: Let's just agree upon the fact that _underscoring_ words and *asterisking* them actually _is_ real formatting.

Heheh, well, I believe you. Just curious, really. I suppose vBulletin *would* have to incorporate that into their code for MacOSX.com to adopt it. And for the record, I don't think that typing the ['s are horribly slower than _'s. :)

Where can i learn about the BBCode? not so interested in the italics, bold etc., but more about how to use citations. is there any info on this site?

MDLarson -> is three times the amount of time used for one _ ... At the very least so, because a squared bracket on a Swiss German keyboard involves more movement for my fingers than an underscore does. ;)

Decado: Use the 'Quote' button below any post, and the BBCode for quoting is automatically entered into your response. You'll see...

I personnaly like your _different_ way of writing, Frike. Even if it's old fashion, the Mac is about being different as being different is a necessary (but not sufficient) part of being better.

Some people don't like _different_ persons.

Heh, I use the BBCode here, but whenever I send email, or in iChat, I still use the underscores and asterisks. And it is quicker to type that way; one character (_ or *) instead of 3. Or if you want to group 'em, 2 instead of 6.
