Here is what has been heard from an Apple Expo specialist:

BabelFish english translation follows

That made now 4 years that I make the Apple Expo as a "black shirt" and compared to the previous years I noticed great changes in the public attitude, without having the impression that the visitors are of "another type". The previous years people came to see Mac, to ask what that has moreover compared to their PC, to see a demonstration of MacOS X to compare with their OS PC, etc... But always from a point of view of information. That often ended in a pout, with convinced moitity... True it is difficult to make people forget the time where it was not so simple to communicate between the two worlds... And then 2004 arrived... people come (that it is on the booth PowerMac G5, iMac G5 or the G4 portables) with the simple question: "I am ready to buy a mac, what must I know, how to make my choice?". I could even make the demonstration of qualities of the OS or of the machine, the customers arrived with the idea to switch, leave their PC, so difficult is separation, to find a a little higher experiment user, without sacrificing the possibilities. And that, that really surprized me. No more need for commercial speech, just for the council. While discussing with these different new comers in the Mac world, the principal reasons are: stability allied with the absence of virus, quasi total compatibility with the PC with the advantage of a pleasant and powerful OS, GarageBand and iLife, and finally generally: the PRICE!!! Yes, I don't invente! In terms of price, some came with config PC Dell, or other marks and the final estimate was generally with the avantage to the Mac while having just to specify that the machines are more "sexy" from every angle... Thus here, continue to speak about Mac around, of you, that becomes less and less difficult to convince people... it then does not miss more than a small spark whereas before it was necessary to work with the body...

well ive never been so wasted but from muh point of view...why would you trust macbidoulle? even though everything you posted could and quite possible is true of course...but still...ill keep on trusting thinksecret...and ill jus wait to see what apple has up their sleeve NeXT....

It seems you didn't get the point at all. MacBidouille is not per se a rumours site, it's a French Mac _news_ site nowadays. They _do_ post rumours, but only rarely. And this was just a report from an experience at this Apple Expo, saying that there's a big difference in what the people asked. Many more seem to want to make the switch to the Mac. And I see this as well out there. People _are_ fed up with Windows' insecurity.

So your arguments kinda seem like belonging to a different thread. You 'believe' in ThinkSecret? Weird kind of religion... And I'm sure we _all_ wait and see what Apple has up their sleeves, but the report was about what _people_ out there have up their sleeves...

Pure speculation without anything to back it up. That and the lack of paragraphs made it read like one of m5moav's postings.

*sigh* ... Look at the FRENCH version. You'll notice paragraphs. And nobody ever said it was supposed to be The Truth(tm)... I don't get it. Why don't you take it as what it is (someone's experience at AppleExpo) and base some of your own thoughts on it?

Sounds almost as if you thought French people couldn't have opinions... Xenophobia?!

Then why isn't this in Opinions and Reviews?
And as far as the crack about the french not having opinions, it seems that YOU are the one with preconceived notions. I said nothing about the French. Whitesaint said nothing about the French. No one said anything about the French in this thread, save for Fryke.
My comment was simply that it was difficult to read. Even if the original was in paragraphs, the translated version could have been cleaned up to make it easier to read.
Plus, I don't see much reason for discussion on one person's view, especially if they are not from this forum.
I did base my opinion on it, if you had actually read the post before going on your French tangent. I would be a little more convinced if there was numbers to back it up, or if the writer talked to someone and included quotes rather than just waxing poetic on it.
Sounds almost as if you thought people on this forum couldn't have opinions...

Sorry, I didn't want to spend 30 minutes translating the whole text.
If one of the forum's mod would like this thread to be transfered to the opinions and reviews one, it will be welcome.
The news is that people working on the Apple Expo in Paris for several years see a difference this year: customers come now to buy, not just to look at iMacs.

that is exactly my case. went to the apple store today, not to see what they were like compared to my pc, but to choose between an ibook and a powerbook (decided on the powerbook btw)

geez, some people are uptight around here. An interesting read, thanks for posting it (I read the french, I don't know how bad babelfish was...)

Babelfish is really.... babelbalbeélelbelabeél (and this is not the raw output, I corrected some of the worst parts of it).

The thread is in the right place. (Because I consider it 'Apple General Discussion'...) Maybe the quote wouldn't have even be necessary, chevy, you just could have summed it up in English for the non-francophone people and linked to the original for those who wanted the details. Why I reacted the way I did was that you, Randman & Whitesaint, didn't even seem to care what the thing was about, dismissing it a) as 'something from MacBidouille' and b) as 'something like mi5moav's posts'. Both arguments didn't exactly show that you had thought about whether or not the experience of this French guy were worth something, as they weren't targetted at the content but the source and form of the original post by chevy.

the french guys opinion is wellcome.
doesnt really matter if its only him supporting this idea.
but if others too have noticed that ppl are changing attitude and are ready to buy macs, then thats really cool. i say ITS ABOUT TIME, What more do they need to change their minds ?

and seriously, it doesnt seem strange at all to me. apple has really got it right.
the iMac G5 is just what its supposed to be. Great price, great performance and with the right features and design of course. who cares if it doesnt have firewire800 ? 99% of the ppl buying iMacs would never use it!

now the only thing apple has to fix is, European prices... and more accurate shipping dates. my 4G iPod has been delayed twice, about a month in total, and i still havent got it, maybe it will take more...!
