The clock keeps changing on the iBook??

What generation iBook? Can you give some stats? It sounds like the battery on the motherboard might be dead. But AFAIK most iBooks didn't have such batteries.
When and how does time change? While running. Does it jump hour-wise or is it simply off? Is the time set to get updates from the internet? Which server is being used for that?
 
An iBook does not have a backup battery. If you remove the main battery (or the main battery discharges completely), and unplug the power adapter, you will lose the time and date. So the year returns to 1956 or 1969, depending on the model. Macbooks revert to 1999, I think.
 
Yeah, the battery for the Mac notebooks acts as the PRAM battery. I don't know if this is the case for all Mac notebooks, however.
