The Mighty Mouse...defeated by a simple breadcrumb!

Sure, it can scroll horizontally faster than a speeding bullet, and open the Dashboard with a single finger, but has our noble mighty mouse been foiled by the most unlikely of kryptonites: the breadcrumb?

So I was eating vegimite on toast as us aussies tend to do, and I went to scroll down using the scroll ball, but as I did so a small piece of breadcrumb was on the tip of my finger and went inside the mouse. Now I cannot scroll down!

what should I do? The mighty mouse can't be taken apart very easily, or at least it doesn;t look like it can?

not the biggest of problems but very irritating nonetheless.

Thanks in advance

well sure, i could buy a new mouse (though i would be more likely to buy another mighty mouse than a MS or Logitech), I just wanna know how feasible it is to clean the breadcrumb out from my existing MM before I hand over another $80?

I love the MM for bringing up dashboard and expose, and the scroll ball can't be beat. Whenever I go back to a logitech mouse on my PC it feels so clunky and awkard (the scroll wheel that is)

$80? What mouse costs 80 dollars?
I can't stand the terribly uncomfortable design of the mighty mouse. Cleaning it out is probably impossible since it is so tight and there are no openings. If you can survive with the mm than you should just get another one, unless you are desperate. (i have dropped stuff in my mouse but nothing like this has happened...only in my keyboard it gets stuck)

yeah it is pretty steep for a mouse, but I do really like it, i'll just have to lay off the toast in future.

I felt the same way at first, but if you invest some time getting used to it it's hard to go back to regular mice, at least that was my expeirence.

I must admit the the "squeeze" button is very awkward (and requires me to lift the mouse slightly off the mat to do it properly), but i still use it all the time. I have it set to Expose's show application windows, so I can efficiently switch between projects in Photoshop, or betweem webpages in safari.

Between the squeeze button and the middle button for dashboard, it has consideribly improved my experience with Mac OS X.

am I the only one who likes it? because I've heard almost all negative comments so far.

I got some crud in the scroll pea too. It came out after I squeezed the pea down hard and upside down - two handed job!! - and rolled the pea in all directions.

oOOOoooo great stuff, got it working again! :D I tried that before, but I didn't press down hard enough on the ball (or pea, lol!). After reading your post I decided to be more forceful and it worked! Quite a bit of crap came out, actually.

Perhaps my spare car keys are there also...

Get a regular pc mouse and you will be happy. Logitech and Microsoft make the best optical ones IMO.

WOW. not helpful. and a breadcrumb could quite feasably bugger up my microsoft mouse. the mighty mouse is a very capable and innovative mouse, even if you don't like it because it's made by apple. this is not the place for an opinion.

my thoughts would be to take the mouse into an apple store/reseller and get them to look at it.

Why were you eating something potentially greasy or crumby next to your computer in the first place? That's never a good idea...computers and their accessories never like nor do they mix well with that kind of stuff. That can become a very expensive accident destined to happen.

That said, take it back to where you got it and get it replaced...they have a 1yr warranty afterall. You might want to leave out the bread crumb explanation though...
