I think I said before, if peopel are goign to help you have to provide some information or we have no hope of helping.

Info like: What kind of mac? What processor? What hard drive? How much Ram? What version of OS X?

A laptop running out of charge over nigh is not normally a problem.

One thing that does happen if the mac shuts down unexpectedly is hat you need to reset the PMU/SMC but we can't give you help with that unless we know what machine you have.

How you make a backup has oo answers, one kinda obvious one less so. The obvious one is burn your data to some DVDs or an external hard drive. The less obviosu one is use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a backup of your whole hard drive. If anything bad happens this lets you restore everything you had installed, all your documents etc to a fresh HD or after you have had to format your HD.

Finally, if you seriously think the HD is breaking, boot from the OS X dvd and open Disk Utility (from the Utilities menu i think) and run Disk first aid.
