I think a Pax Americana Revisited is a good idea. The only thing is that the goals, the enemies and the weapons of war have to be reassessed.
Old Goal - protect the world from tyranny
NewGoal - end the suffering of the world.
Old Enemies - Ideologies that deny the value of human life
New Enemies - (a shortlist) ignorance and poverty (corruption could make the shortlist)
Old Weapons - a variety of military technologies that break things and kill people
New Weapons - knowledge, justice, money and compassion wisely applied to root out the sources of resentment and suffering to improve the lot of people everywhere
BTW - since it will come up. I am not opposed to the removal of Saddam Hussein as a genuine badguy. I just think that the stated purpose of breaking the back of the terror network would have been better served by investing the money spent prosecuting the war in Iraq on the solution to the sore that feeds the terror cadres, and won't belabor that. I have made my point on how (I think) that has to be approached.
