The rotating/cross disolving desktop option

I am the law!
This is a cool setting, but for some reason, the only picture that fades is the one on my main screen. The other two screens just switch with no fade. I have an AGP radeon 32mb [my main screen] 1 PCI radeon 32mb and 1 PCI Rage pro 16mb.

The pictures screensaver will fade all three no problem.

Ok I have a question concerning this feature:

Does it hog CPU cycles when your using it? Playing games and stuff for memory and cpu intensive stuff does it hinder if its on? If anyone has it running can you open the ProcessViewer app and see if it shows it using cycles?

Thanks

My guess is that it requires QE to do the cross fade. QE, in turn requires 16MB Radeon (or better) on AGP. PCI won't cut it. I'm pretty sure the screen savers are using Quicktime, which has no such limitation.

QE won't work on any pci graphics card? [its a radeon for crying out loud]

it uses CPU when it changes the desktop, so if you have it set to changed every 5 seconds its going to slow your computer down. I have mine set to change every 30 minutes, so its not that big of a deal.

From the QE page at apple.com:

Requirements:
Quartz Extreme functionality is supported by the following video GPUs: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, GeForce3, GeForce4 MX, or GeForce4 Ti or any AGP-based ATI RADEON GPU. A minimum of 16MB VRAM is required.

So, maybe that means that only the Radeon requires AGP. But I doubt it. I'm pretty sure I've seen mention that AGP is absolutely required.

I feel your pain. I've got 16MB on an AGP card, and thought I'd be golden. But, alas, it's only a Rage128Pro (only!!). So no QE for me (yet). I've got an 8500 on the way... ;)
