the Switch User function

I think Mac OS X should have the Switch User function. It is in Windows XP and I simply loved XP (for this function) since I'm not the only one using the computer in the house.

It is similar to the Log Out function except it doesn't log out the user. All the applications are still intact when you switch user and don't quit, unlike when you Log Out. This is good when I was downloading, leaving AIM on, etc.

What do you guys think?

I agree. I think it has been discussed here, but who knows if Apple really is working on it? I dunno if it's high on their priority list. it's high on mine.

Furthermore, it should have a command to lock the screen when you go away, instead of just with the screen saver.

Add these to the list.

I believe you'll find that It can't effectively be achieved in a Unix environment without compromising security.

Couldn't really be done at all...in the Unix environment, you can't change the owner of an already running program. Which would bring up some nasty permissions problems.
