things needed in the full safari release

There is one thing I would like to see in the full release of Safari, that is the ability to download a full website. IE lets me get a whole site, links and all and that is very useful for getting a tutorial on disk to be able to work through offline.

What else does it need?

I use WebGrabber for this.

ok , i just upgraded to jag on thursday and so my experience with safari is still somewhat limited. some of the things iwant are already available thru haxies, but it would be nice if apple could put them right into the program. of course i would like to see all of them as prefs.
* identity/emulation choices
* display choices - how to handle links
**ability to designate where i want to download a graphic image to and not just have it handled by the download manager and sent to my download folder!!
*theme options - at least give choice of original aqua and brushed metal
*option to check for changes on page when using back button - very important when viewing forums
*real player functionality - no excuse not to now that real is open source
**ability to set scroll wheel to move more than one line!!!
*ability to choose plugins and helper apps
*a tabs option, just so i don't have to read the whining anymore :D
*ability to configure contextual menus with a few more choices
**ability to get rid of offset windows!!

basically some of the options we are used to in almost every other browser. i love safari, but i still need to use 2 or more browsers to do all my surfing with.

Heres my list:

Absolute DOM standards compliance, or at least pick IE or Mozilla to emulate. I dont want a third DOM to program for and I DARE not ask for a browser that would accept both Mozilla and IE DOM properties! THAT would make it so ANYONE could program complex pages and JavaScripts and effects and dhtml! Then I would have to learn some other obscure and quirky niche-tech to maintain my nerd status!

Tweakable interface - themes I want my browser controls out of the way and small - more Web, less browser.

adjustable history setting, so we dont get busted ;)

The bookmark system is different, but is it really better? To tell the truth, I never had a problem with any browser's bookmarking system...I dont see what they were fixing.

Tabs would be cool

on-the-fly plug in manager would be cool, but not essential.

I didnt really notice any speed increase.

OH YEAH! make it for Windows, OS9 and Linux, and make it consistent!

You cannot change the specifications of software in the beta release stage except to correct problems. That means the "final release" of Safari will be the same in its funtionality as the current release. If any features were to be added, they would have to wait for the NEXT version of Safari.

the only final release is the one before development is abandoned, so bring on the NEXT version. ;-)

good points so far, cupertino are you watching?

without getting too bloated, a slightly more visible progress meter (i'm-working-on-it meter) would be nice, especially since it takes 30 seconds to time out.

also, i'd like to choose my default apps, set safari to open eudora when I click on a mail-to link

I've modified my Safari so that the progress meter is orange, as it was too easy to confuse it with the blue highlight-colour for address text.

I've also aquafied it and clarified the Add Bookmark dialogue a bit:

i'm not sure where this rule comes from, but plenty of betas have had features added before release - especially browsers. so i'd really like to see these things added to the next beta and not wait for the final. after all, they will likely have bugs to report as well.

Just set your default email app in the System Preferences:Internet
But. I hear ya. Currently, apart from using IE, there is no way that I know of to change system-wide default protocol helper applications, other than email and browser through System Prefs. I would prefer if this was a System Prefs option though, instead of being within Safari.

My list
1) spell check always on
2) tabs
3) i NEED to choose where my file saves
4) ability to log into wellsfargo online banking ;)
5) right clicking on icon pulls up bookmarks bar (like chimera)
6) ability to work when i hit preview in dreamwever
7) auto close the download window when downloads are complete

Tabbed browsing has become a necessity for me - ever since I migrated from IE 5.2 to Netscape 7.0 and/or Mozilla.

I haven't yet received my OS X 10.2 Jaguar disk but hope to be able to upgrade by the end of this week.

One question: those of you who have Safari - how does it handle DHTML menus? My sites tend to rely heavily on various types of 'sliding' menu, and I'd hope that Safari can render these better than (say) Netscape 7.0.

TEXTGRABS guys!!
In IE Explorer I can copy/grab/clone everything to anywhere. In SAFARI NOT.Thats so simple!
Heck-Steve couldn´t you develop it further!

Uh. This browser was first released in January. Of THIS year. It is now the middle of February. So it's about ONE MONTH OLD. Give it a rest with the "i want this and this now" stuff. QUIT YOUR FRICKIN WHINGING.
