Think Secret: New iPods by the end of the month

Sounds like Macrumors famous announces about the new iPods being out "next tuesday" - in last november! :p (still waiitng)

15 and 30G??? where did they invent that? toshiba makes _those_ small hard drives used for ipods, in 40 AND 80 G - why would they ever go to 30 G? instead a move from 5, 10, 20 G to 10, 20, 40 (& 80) G would make more sense.

HOOORRAAAY! I've also heard new ipods within 3 weeks so this sounds good. I can see this because for mp3's they aren't going to go too high. 30G would be a good number.

I don't think thats true. Why would apple move from the AWESOME design they have now? I mean those round buttons look stupid.

I guess it depends on what bitrate you encode in.

At any rate, I hope they update before Christmas so I can take advantage of my CompUSA TAP ;) .

I do find it kind of odd that the 5G have takne a leave of absense. I'd love to have a 10+G!

I totally agree. But, if Apple is really going to make iPods in thos sizes, something is wrong. How awesome would it be to have 20, 40, and 80G iPods and that can happen now! Why does Apple always go for "the just good enough" rather than "whoa! the is almost to much!"

All Power to a 80G!

You must have a good CompUSA. In my area your iPod MUST be defective in order to get it replaced, then you'd pay the difference between the your model price now, and the model you want. 10 gig for 10 gig or 10 gig price credit twards a 20 gig. Prices as of that day not from what you paid.

Has anyone looked at the conceptual drawing of the new iPod on ThinkSecret? That thing is ugly! Why would Apple take a great design with the buttons encircling the scroll wheel and make them below the screen? This makes it look like ant other bad plastic mp3 player out there. I thought the button layout was perfect, but this new one seem not only ugly, but less intuitive. It completely destroys the simple aesthetic look of one circle of controls and a screen, if this is the new look, I'll stick with my current 10gb iPod.

Thoughts anyone?

I don't think that the pic is for real. Apple is known for its ease of use and those four buttons totally defy reason. Think Secret isn't the most reliable source out there.

Yea I agree with Ugg, it's just something they threw together real quick. I'm sure the iPod will look exactly the same as the old with maybe the buttons moved or maybe not. But i'm sure apple will do a good job anyway. Were people unhappy with button placement? Not sure why they would do this all of a sudden?

Is anyone else kinda wondering about this price drop? 299 for 10 gig etc? Seems wierd because it seems to me they are selling really good right now.

USB 2.0 support has also been added to the iPod, primarily for Windows users.

I think this is the most incredible point of the rumor. I could understand FireWire 800 support, but to include a feature in an Apple product (even in its Win version) that can't be used with/has no counterpart on a Macintosh is really... well, incredible. Unless Apple plans to include USB 2.0 ports on Macs really soon.

As far as I can see, the new iPod will still have only a firewire port on the device itself, but the cradle will have USB 2.0. Which makes sense, really, as this enables more Windows users to use an iPod. I.e.: More potential buyers.

You'll still be able to directly charge an iPod via firewire and to connect it to a Mac (or firewire enabled PC) without the cradle.

And how does it fit on that dock? Is there new slots at the bottom, in the drawing it seems as if it would stay upright but then how would it charge? If it were upside down it looks as if there is no place for the firewire to plug into.

I have an original 5G model. Well, if they don't offer the 5G model any more shouldn't they replace my 5G for a 10G (or whatever the low-end model is at the time)? Also, I purchased my TAP when it was still the flat-rate $29.99 (I think) as it was considered a Mass Storage Device. The associate told me that the TAP was a one time replacement only warranty, and that they would replaced it whether it was faulty workmanship or I brought it in in a million pieces because I ran it over in my car. Any way, as Christmas draws near I'll be contacting my local CrapUSA to make sure everything is in order. I just wonder how they would handle that. If they don't offer it any more do I get credit for what I paid, or what they last offered it for? Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

No, she's talking about macrumors alright. But there has really been much information about the new iPods for a long, long time now.
