Third party DVD burners to replace superdrive?

My superdrive just died in my Quicksilver 2002 Dual 1 Gig g4 running 10.2.8.

Trying to replace it with one of the 16x burners (NEC ND-3520A) on the market (internal), but of course, the Mac won't recognize it. So I downloaded patchburn for Jaguar and none of the NEC drivers in patchburn worked (when I insert a blank DVD-R disc, it says my drive is an unsupported drive).

Any way to get the NEC drive to work?
