Upon opening the terminal window I get this.... [thisaddressdoesnotexist:~] wilyum%

Have tried logging in as root, other user etc, comes up with the same thing, what have I done? And how can I fix it?

worryingly...

[thisaddressdoesnotexist:~] wilyum% hostname
ThisAddressDoesNotExist
[thisaddressdoesnotexist:~] wilyum% grep ^HOST /etc/hostconfig
HOSTNAME=-AUTOMATIC-
[thisaddressdoesnotexist:~] wilyum%

"wilyum" is my shortname, any idea what could of caused this to suddenly happen?

thx in advance

whoever is serving reverse DNS for you, has a funny named implementation, actually performing reverse lookup (i.e. not failing it), but sending the silly name. I'd bet the forward DNS query will not work for this silly name you ended up with.

wow man, works a treat... thanks a lot for that, however should this pose a problem with any networking in the future?

Okay I see, so if I ever got a DNS name resolved to my own IP address I should just put in there. Thats cool.

Thing is I do actually have my firewall turned on, so shouldn't it then have worked?

Happy Easter! and thanks again...
