Tiger 10.4 won't update

After having had to replace my HD due to failure I proceeded to reinstall Tiger 10.4 from DVD. After installation is complete I used a previously dl MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.11.dmg to update. It doesn't allow me to choose a volume. Get "This volume does not meet the requirements." This is the same dvd i used before. So it did work at one time. But now no.

I have googled the problem and found little help. And what I found and tried:

1 - removed /Library/Receipts and restarted and retryed to no avail.
2 - delete the /Library/Preferences/ softwareupdate plist with restart also did not work.
3 - Wiped the HD and started again. Same problem.

I am frustrated and at my wits end. HELP!

What happens if, after a fresh install from your install DVD, you just click on Apple->Software update, select the required update and let it do it's thing?

jb.

I'm facing the same problem as red.
Intel mac..new hard disk...Update 10.4.11 says,"This volume does not meet the requirements"..

Rohan what is the OS version you have where you are trying to install this Mac OS X 10.4.11 combo [for your architecture]?
10.4.x?
What is the Mac model you have?
How is that disk formatted?

my previous disk crashed,so i installed a new 250 GB western digital..
Installed Tiger with the disk i got with my macbook... It's 10.4.9..
I formatted the disk in Mac OS Extended(Journaled)..

oh i'm sorry. i'm trying to install 10.4.10 combo update and i get something like "error during installation. Please try again"

Macbook 21.6 ghz..250 GB...1 GB ram

Is that combo update the one for Intel?
(trying to install the version for PPC should give an error of that type).
10.4.11 would probably be a better choice than 10.4.10.

yeah it's for intel...
i have 10.4.11 as well which gives me,"this volume does not meet the requirements"...
cause 10.4.11 requires 10.4.10 to be installed 1st..

Hello. My machine is a powerpc G5, and i am having a similar problem. I just installed a second hd to back up the factory hd, which seems to be ready to crash. I loaded the new hd with 10.4, then tried to upgrade it to 10.4.11 (which is running on the first hd). In the update window where it asks for the destination, the original disc has a green arrow and will accept the update (again), but the new disc has a red ! and gives the same message (this volume does not meet requirements...) It made me think it was something to do with the new sata device, but I bought it from an apple dealer (ST31000528AS). I am certain the ppc update is the one I need. The intel combo download gives a red ! for both drives.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you partition and format the new Hard-drive with the proper Apple partition map before you tried the new install?

Are you sure you have the Combo Updater? How big is the file?

Just use Software Update, it'll do everything for you.

Thanks guys. I ended up just making an exact copy of everything from my failing hd on the new hd by using disk utility's restore feature. Now I have the updated version of 10.4.11 Incidentally this has not stopped my crashing problem, which i now suspect is related to a conflict between adobe and preview plug-ins
