Tiger and USB ports?

I currently have the macMini, which only comes with 2 usb ports. I am running my wireless mouse and keyboard out of one and my 200gb ext harddrive (which contains all my music and movies) out of the other. I have just purchased a 30gb Ipod Video and have nowhere to plug it in, so i tried a self powered 4 port hub. I got the "not enough power" message so bought a AC powered 4 port hub. This didnt work either.

Is there a known "tiger + usb hub = problem"? and if so, how do you fix it?

I have found the USB2 ports on a hub just don't have enough mili amps to provide the intolerant iPod (iPod w/video and Shuffle). So you can either move one of the devices directly connected to the Mac and then use that port to power the iPod. Also you may want to look at the cool miniStack. OWC even have even more mini accessories.
