Tiger Install Then Waiting For Root Device

Funtime Freddie

On the restart of an installation of tiger (from 922) I get a "waiting for root device" on the startup. This has happened even on my 2nd drive after installation. Here is some background: firmware was updated prior to tiger install-428f1;G4 400 gig; both drives have been verified problem free; permissions have been verified and I have no pci cards or external devices connected except mouse and keyboard and cable modem.

How do I solve this "waiting for root device problem-what can I try"? I would like to get x up and running for the first time. Also I get a list of extensions like"extensions.com.apple.firewirebridgeprocess, etc." not kernel dependent-does this have anything to do with my problem also?

All help appreciated,
