Tiger nVidia 6800 & formac screen

Hi,
I'm getting a weird effect on my formac 17" LCD ADC monitor, when using an nVidia 6800 Ultra video card with a ADC-DVI adaptor on my G5. It looks like the whole screen is shifted right by 25 pixels and I get a wrap around effect. I'm running the monitor at 1280x1024. Changing the monitor resolution from the System display corrupts the image further. If I run a Full screen application (a game for example) at 1280x1024 I get exactly the same.
This is after a clean install (ie a blank drive) of 10.4 Tiger (retail). The display is corrupted before you get as far as the loginwindow.
HOWEVER - if I press the Alt key to select my startup drive the display works as expected, 1280x1024 displays ok. It's only when Mac OSX starts.
So far I've tried Resetting PRAM(3times)
Resetting Open Firmware (reset-all)
Reinstalling Tiger.
Also I could see that the display was shifted during the Tiger install off the CD.
Plugged the monitor onto the external DVI port on my laptop.
What I can't test yet is my G5 plugged onto another monitor because I don't have one.

The display works on a G4 with 10.3.9.
I connected a 22in Lacie screen running at 1600x1200@85Hz and set that as the promary display. This monitor works fine. The weird thing is that the formac screen displays the extended desktop correctly - including desktop picture & screensaver UNTIL I move the mouse over to the display. As soon as the pointer is drawn on the formac the whole screen becomes offset.
I've plugged in an Apple cinema Display (ADC version) via the ADC-DVI block and that works fine. I can change resolution etc and everything works as expected.

Hope someone can shed some light

can you take a screen shot successfuilly capturing the effect? (apple+shift+3, saves to the desktop, just in case you didn't know :))

i doubt the screenshot will reflect the distortion.

I don't know what to say until you try another display on the G5, it sounds like the video card is messed up because the display works on a different computer with the ADC-DVI brick. Are you using the same cable on the G4 as on the G5? I suppose this could be a driver issue as well, but I highly doubt it because it is a common card. Did this effect happen during the tiger install?

The effect was apparent during the tiger install, when booting off the CD. I could see the background was offset.

I've uploaded some digital camera shots to http://homepage.mac.com/lee.b/PhotoAlbum1.html showing the problem. You can see on each of the screenshots the safari window has wrapped around to the left of the screen. The 1024x768 is completely corrupt. The last 1280x1024 has shifted further.

Taking a screenshot dowsn't show the problem.

I've had a look through the console and have found something which may have an impact on this.

I don't know whether any of those messages are normal.
I've reseated the card in the G5 - no change

Thanks

Its an LCD screen so no chance to change the refresh rate.

IF I run the iTunes visualiser, the screen displays correctly. Very weird. When I return to the desktop the screen has been offset to the second position.

Every other program I've run displays the same as the desktop.

Lets hope 10.4.1 fixes this.
