Tiger Shuts Down At Beginning of Install

I have an 800mhz iMac G4 currently running 10.2.8.

When I attempt to install Tiger it initiates a shutdown at various points. The farthest I have gotten through the install is to the point where I am suppose to select the installation target. I am unable to go any further because my harddrive shows up greyed out if at all.

I have stripped the system down to the origional 256megs ram, keyboard and mouse. I have fsck'ed the boot media and reset the prom.

I ever ran disk utilities and checked the DVD. It seems to be OK. I ran an md5sum on the raw DVD [8b35f2cf9cb9e94dd5ec21783e2fe8e7], but I do cannot find any documentation at to what the checksum should be.

I am at a loss. Anyone have any ideas.

The shutdowns (really? not reboots?) sound bad. You're not talking about power-outs, right? It really _ends_ the installer program, says something about shutting down and shuts down? Never heard of it, really...

Yes, the system shuts down. It sounds like a graceful shutdown where the harddrive is active for a bit, all applications close, and then the power turns off. There are no messages warning of the shutdown, just a period of disk activity.

I am fairly certian that I am not losing power as I have a UPS power two computers. Only the iMac inexplicably turns off and only during a Tiger install.
