Tiger to Leopard using asr restore?

hi, I am really struggling here!

trying to update my tiger OS with leopard - .dmg file, no disk. unfortunately, my tiger restore disc has a known bug that does not allow drag and drop in disc utility*.

tiger is incredibly unstable for me and I am unable to perform the most simple tasks.

I have both a 8GB+16GB usb stick and external hd (two partitions, one running tiger) - and a bare internal HD.

so far, I have tried the following in the terminal (booted from tiger install disc):

asr restore --source /Volumes/MyUSB/leopard.dmg --target /dev/disk0s2 -erase

I get an error saying it couldn't validate the source.

I have also changed the source (i.e. moved leopard.dmg to my external hardrive and mounted) to a partition on my external hd but still have the same results.

I am exhausted and out of things to try.
I have a fault with my disc drive which means I cannot burn the .dmg file.

I hope someone can help. I need a workaround, whether it involves the terminal or something else. many thanks,

filip7.

it is a backup I made of my original disc from a couple of years back, before I switched to a windows desktop because of hd problems. I recently was able to fix my macbook hd, but cannot find my original disc.
