Time to kill the "PowerMac" name....?

Just to point out, Apple has gotten into trouble with their internal code names before, let alone any public names. Anyone here remember "Sagan" or was that too early for y'all?

Then it was BHA ! And do not forget Dylan. The whole Dylan thing was stupid. And about xMac. as in OS X Mac. What happens when the OS version number gets to 11? XIMac?

Well, I doubt Apple will ever release "Mac OS 11". What will probably happen is that 1) Apple will release Mac OS X v.11, or 2) come up with a different rebranding for Mac OS X by that time. We should see v. 11 of Mac OS X sometime in Fall 2003 if the current schedule holds up. The OS X brand will be over 4 years old at that time. It will definitely be ready for a new branding at that point.

By the time that happens, Apple could really drop the "X" from the Mac OS title, since there won't be any need to distinguish it from any other Apple OS (since 9 will be long gone from a sales/marketing standpoint).

As I've said, the "Powermac" name is 8 years old and doesn't hold much meaning anymore. It's only used it marketing and sales materials, and only appears on the box and the manuals for the product. Apple doesn't even feel the need to advertise (TV) the Pro machines, and hasn't since the beige G3 ads (The "Supercomputer" ad doesn't count, because while produced, never aired on TV).
