Time to move or still with 9?

Ok! Here it is. My yesterdays poll showed that many people think that OS 10.1(.1) is now a true nextgen OS. But what about 9? Post your view!

My opinion: I still have to use OS 9! The OS X DVD Player doesn't see my DVD drive (Although I patched it successfully! Help needed!). So I have to use 9. And I need Office. I can't afford the new X version. Not even the update. But there is a problem with using 9. I have the !german! Apple pro USB keyboard, and I can write with the USA keylayout only! (help needed too!) There was a patch from "Code Mercenaries". But that doesnt work anymore with OS 9.2.1! But I'm using X too. I love it. But my mac is too slow! But the only thing I want is DVD playback. Then I would move to X ONLY!

I am delighted to report that I never have to boot up in OS 9 again, except to run repairs on my OS X partition. And even for that, I could boot from my utility CDs.

But now I still can't use OS X full time because Photoshop and FCP are not native yet

Once Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, FCP and photoshop are OS X native I can move to only using X.

I have a rev B Bondi iMac with 256MB RAM. No idea how OS X will cope with it, and in any case, until I have:

- drivers for my Umax USB scanner AND;
- OpenGL drivers for the ATI RagePro that comes in early iMacs

... there's no point in my moving to OS X, much as I'd like to.

Anyone got any "real world" experience of running OS X 10.1.1 on such an old iMac? Is it any good at all?

Mind you, OS 9 would be a start eh?

I only use OSX, but I do however use MYOB & Photoshop in Classic (though I deny that I am, and just pretend that I have an OS9 theme running with these two applications)

Someone bought my G4 Powerbook yesterday, and mentioned he's still using OS7.6.1 because it works. Niiiccce (it was a great system). He only wanted OS9.1 on the Powerbook, even though I offered X.
