Completely new to mac after making the switch this holiday season. I am trying to play online poker on my mac but almost every site requires Windows for the download. I'm told that Microsoft's "Virtual PC" can solve this problem. I got a hold of a copy of VPC but it is in a .dmg file. I try to click and nothing good happens. How do I treat a .dmg file to get it to install VPC on my computer?
Also, could you recommend and good resources for getting myself familiarized with Mac. It seems most of the stuff is similar but there are some definite differences.

Oh, btw, running a Powerbook G4 wih Osx 10.4.4

it sounds like you are trying to install illegal software, and discussion of which is prohibited on these boards. Virtual PC costs between £100 and £300 (depending on the version of windows you install it with).

Virtual PC runs Windows in it's own emulated environment, and therefore needs the software, and also a full copy of Windows to run.

for reference, .dmg file are whats called Disk Images, and when launched, 'mount' themselves on the desktop, like all drives (cd's, Hard Disks, usb flash pen-drives, dvd's etc). you then treat them much like a pen-drive, or CD-rom from this point. when you have finished with them, eject them like any other drive. remember to copy the files you need off them, and not just rely on the disk image always being there.
 
Why not use something that's open source like QEMU or the Cocoa port of QEMU called Q (which I recommend on a Mac OS X computer)? You won't be breaking the law, and you can run a variety of operating systerms. And since it's a processor emulator, you can run various other operating systems that don't run on x86 (like possibly Solaris for SPARC).

There was a thread on here some months back about poker rooms for Mac users, and a bunch of people replied with a number of sites. Do a search in the forums for this and you should be able to come up with some solutions.
 
I can second the suggestion of PokerRoom.com -- I use it quite often and it works flawlessly. Plus it's one of the better poker sites out there, IMO.
