When I plug a firewire HD into my mac and transfer files, how is the HD logged? By name or by some sort of #? When using DV editing, it could be useful to have the name of my iPod and FW HD's logged, so I know where my raw footage is stored (it can be a crap shoot sometimes)

There's an app called Console located in Applications/Utilities/

Seems like that the console app only stores the data since I last turned on.
I also checked the "log directory" of console. There I only found log of programs which crashed.

Is this really all that is beeing logged?

/var/log/ - the log files are there. Note that that's one of the "invisible" files in the Finder (and to most applications, too). Easiest way to see it is to navigate there via the terminal.

I tried to use the terminal app but when trying to access "/var/log/" I get: "Permission denied". :(

Sorry I am absolutely newbie in console and terminal on mac. If you know a useful url for tutorials, please go ahead and forward it to me.
Thxs.
