Tranferring pictures from Iphoto to external hard disk

hi.

I would like to transfer all my photos from iphotos into my external hArddisk. How do I do it?

If my photos are all in the harddisk, CAn i still use iphoto to organise/view pictures?

I dont want to have duplicated photos (one in my external harddisk and one in iphoto).

Hope u understand wat im trying to do..


what im trying to do is do organise the photos in a way so that it can be viewed properly when I use my Windows. (i.e. 2006> January> John's birthday)

I moved my iPhoto library to my external, and then via an alias on the computer, pointed iPhoto to that drive for photos. iPhoto works exactly as it did when the library was on my computer (I believe there is a KB article that describes step by step how to do this) (as long as the external is on an mounted, of course).

Now as far as Windows, I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to do so not much help there. If you are networked with a windows machine, you can use Share Points to allow access to the external, and the photos can be seen from the windows machine as well. Is that what you are wanting to do?
 
How do you move the iphoto library. I just hooked my external drive up - it has 250GB of space but when I try to copy and paste the iPhoto library to it I get a message saying there isn't enough space!

Also what's a KB article?

Way off topic, but... --> Was sorted by name (default). I had to sort by rating, and then add rating to everything. Would be nice if WordPress had a numeric that you could set (other than the key field in the database) to put things into the order that you want them. I started editing the database directly, until I realized that rating would work just fine. I should have just used my own code, instead of WordPress, but I'm lazy, and the links section of WordPress makes it easy (or so I thought). MacOSX.com's place in the list definitely didn't reflect my feelings about this site. I visit here more than any other place. :)
