Transer Files From One Mac To New Mac Via Ipod

Hello...I saw them doing this at the Apple retail store at the genius bar, they were usig their Ipod to transfer a program (that I needed to add to my Imac that I did not have ie: Iphoto) to my Imac. That being said I want to use my Ipod shuffle to move files from my Imac to my Power Book...I have been reading the threads here and found I can transfer my Itunes music by using a ripping software (thanks for that info)...but how do I transfer reg files...I tried to open a doc. and 'save as' and locate my attatched iPod but coulnd not figure this out...thanks for all the advice!
 
You have to set the iPod into Disk Mode. If you have it set to auto sync, you can't transfer files.

She's taken it with her, otherwise I could check and use all the correct terminology!!
 
She's just back as I typed!!

Go to iTunes/Prefs/iPod - Music Tab. Tick "enable disk use" at bottom of window.
 
used my ipod to completely back up my 10.3.9 system when i clean installed Tiger when it came out. i could boot into the ipod's Panther system too!

completely redundant as an ipod though :P
