trash not working

i recently used monolingual to remove localized files after doing an archive and install. after that i used an application called "super empty trash" to destroy these files. now, when i try to click on the trash icon in the dock, it won't show anything. in fact, the spinning wheel of doom begins and i have to force quit the finder. please help.

i am running mac 10.4.8 on a macbook.

Start up Terminal and then type

ls -al (return)

What permissions do you see for .Trash ?

You should see: drwx------
