Trouble connecting to my tv

I've just connected my macbook to my tv using a mini dvi to dvi, then dvi to hdmi connections and all I see on the tv is my wallpaper photo, not mirroring my computer at all...any suggestions?

Go into System Preferences > Displays.

You will have options for either "Extended Desktop" or "Mirror" mode. "Extended Desktop" makes each of your monitors (or a monitor and a TV) into separate desktops, and you can drag windows across monitors (for example, from one monitor on the left to another on the right). You can adjust the placement of the monitors in the "Arrangement" section.

There is also an option for "Mirrored" desktops -- this makes each of your monitors mirror each other, good for presentations, etc. Be aware that if your monitors are of different size and/or resolution that the image you see on one monitor may not use the entire monitor's screen, since the resolution is being mirrored as well (for example, using a 15" standard monitor and a 24" widescreen monitor in mirrored mode probably wouldn't be all that great).

Depending on why you need two monitors, you can probably leave the monitor in extended desktop mode, and simply drag the window you'd like to see on the TV across the screens over to the TV screen.
