Trouble viewing videos from Safari

I just got a new Mac after a long long time....
So I want to watch videos downloaded from the internet, either M3U or PLS . The files seem to be automatically transfered to itunes for playing, and yet it is not able (maybe not compatible?) to play these types of files...
I have tried opening these files with other applications: Quick Time or Adobe Flash Player as the video supplier advises...but nothing happens..as I assume they are already itune files...
Please help...this is just the tip of the ice berg...I'm sure there will be other questions following!!

Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to the forums. Are you sure that M3U and PLS files are videos? From what I can see they relate to playlists.

As a general rule, though, a useful program for video and audio files is VLC. It's also free! :)

I'd like the most recent version of this program before I download. Do you know where that would be?

Thanks,
Steve

Thanks for your reply. I did find Flip4Mac, installed it, and successfully connected to the Hawaiian radio station I was trying to listen to. I'm not sure what will require Perian, but I installed it to be proactive.

Thanks again,
Steve
