Hi,

I downloaded a file with LimeWire. It is a ".sit" file. When I try to open it, StuffitExpander says: "The file "myfile.sit" does not appear to be compressed or encoded. It is advised that you obtain further information ...". Is anyone out there who can help me opening this file? It was not the first time that this happend.

cheers,
Wieland

Have you tried dragging and dropping the .sit file on top of the Stuffit Expander Icon? I have had a similiar problem where double clicking on the file did not work, but dropping it on the icon would force a decompress. If you are running OSX you can do this right in the dock.

I know some jerks on LimeWire have apps that log what you search for and make different files with names based on that search, you could have gotten one of those. Most likely it's incomplete or some idior thought making a .sit was a simple matter of renaming the file. I know there's a way to make UNIX tell you what kind of file you have, I just don't know how.

Well, probably you are right. If you meet someone of these folks, slap him in the face, please:D

Thanx a lot
