Trouble with start up

When we try to start up, the circle keeps spinning and a circle with a slash replaces the apple. We unplugged everything and reinstalled the Panther disk, but nothing is happening. We got a code
/pci/@d/ADPT,2940u2b@4/@0:5,\;tbyi
Does anyone know what this could mean?
Thank you!

have tryed to reset you PRAM? it sound as if something in there has get massed up. you do that by restarting you mac then holding doen the ctrl key and the apple key and the R and P Keys down at restart and then letting the system reset it self 3 times then let go of the keys and see if that helped.

Obviously this computer has an Adaptec 2940U2B card in it which came with older B & W G3s. It's been known to be problematic. Replace it with an IDE (ATA) disk and pull the SCSI card and it should be better.
