Trying to get Acrobat to communicate w/ Scanner

I am trying to scan documents within Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0. However, even though I have a TWAIN-compatible scanner (HP Laserjet 3020), Acrobat does not recognize the scanner.

I should note that I am able to connect to the scanner via the HP Scan software. However, the HP Scan software has several major limitations (e.g. it creates very large files - 500-900K for 1 B&W text page) and so I am desperately looking to operate the scanner via different software.

Does anyone know how I can get Acrobat to communicate with my scanner? Is there something I need to install?

Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated.

My System Profile is as follows:

OS 10.3.9
Mac G4 Sawtooth 2000

Sadly, HP scanners haven't been well supported in OSX. The same problem exists for us Photoshop users. The only way I've been able to get my HP Scanjet to work is to use HP's own scanning software, available from HP.com.

If there IS a way around that, I'd LOVE to hear it. I hate having to go through the extra steps to get a picture into photoshop.

I am having the exact same problem with a HP Scanjet 5300C and Acrobat Pro 7.0.7. General Scanning with the HP software works fine. But in Acrobat I can not scan. It actually shows a scanner in the drop down (HP PrecisionScan DS whatever that is) but when I try to scan, the scanner icon briefly pops up on my dock and then quickly disapears with an error that says that there was a problem with Acrobat communicating with my scanner. I guess Ra3ndy is correct about HP scanner driver supporsupport from apple.
