Trying to install Leopard on Laptop

I have a 3 year old small white Apple laptop. I also have an iMac.

I recently acquired the laptop back from my 19 year old son who broke the DVD drive and deleted several necessary programs I'd like to use. The laptop is using 10.4.7 and I would like to upgrade to Leopard, which is the same OS on my iMac.

My real question is can I link the two together with a firewire cable or something and load the new OS onto my laptop from the iMac? If this won't work what would you suggest I do to load the Leopard OS from the disk to the laptop?

See this article: Enable mounting of remote CD/DVDs on any Mac . Warning! I have not tried this myself. Warning part II! There's no mention of installing or booting - but see the last comment on the article.

If you don't already have the two machines on an ethernet network, the firewire target-mode scheme may be your best bet.

You need a retail copy of 10.5 to load onto your iBook. The system and install DVDs on your iMac will not be recognised correctly on a different machine.
